I hate cooking with a passion, I have been told I am a good cook but I get no enjoyment from it, it is a chore that I despise. I think its not the cooking so much but the what to cook. I stand in front of the pantry for so long trying to think of new and wonderful things to make and in the end I cook the same thing as I did last week. Knowing this when I do the shopping I end up buying the same ingredients over and over and the pantry fills with tins of tomatoes and jars of spaghetti sauce. Then there are the really obscure items that I buy when I am pretending that I will cook something different but dont and then those start to double up.
So for the past two weeks I have been cooking what is in the pantry and not buying groceries. It amazes me that all that food was sitting there just wasting away. However in my determination to empty the pantry we are getting down to a few strange combinations, a mixing of continents and condiments not likely to be seen on the next Master Chef (oh and I hate those cooking shows too).
Now I must be off there is a pan of turkey sausages with dukkah seasoning, tinned tomatoes and water chestnuts waiting to be served.

I must admit that I was like that some years ago but then I started to plan out our meals every week (now fortnight) so that I took the guess work out of the, "what the heck am I going to cook for dinner tonight?" question. Works well for us and we don't waste food much either. :)
I am definately a list girl, if I dont have a list, I tend to come home with very little. I do a weekly menu plan, 2 weeks if I feel very enthusiastic. I find cooking a chore, don't like the interuptions, and i despise those cooking shows too.
Hope your dinner went well :)
